Wounded Warrior Fishing Trip
On August 22nd, the Belmar Community met and took out 43 Wounded Warriors stationed at Fort Dix. These Brave Men and Women were wounded in the Middle East while serving our country. Asbury Park Mounted Police, Bag pipers, and members of the Community young and old came out to thank them for their service. Along with the Wounded, 7 Staff members and members of the Vietnam Veteran’s 899 were also taken out. The Boat was the Ocean Explorer and the owner donated the boat fees and only charged gas and bait. The trip was paid for with donations from you all and the Soldiers were very grateful. Every soldier was given a gift bag that included a pair of sunglasses from Eastern lines (that was a donation of over 5 Thousand dollars in merchandise) an itunes card, disposable cameras, shirts from RKE and Belmar Tourism, a hat from Orange County Chopper. The VFW post 2620 provided a donation as well as a group to help greet the soldiers. 5 portable dvd players were donated from The Military Order of the Purple Heart, and with the monies donated, Ipods, digital cameras and other prizes were also dispersed. Con Air made a very large donation of fifty prizes including Neck Massagers, personal groomers, Hair dryers, Coffee makers and more. Local businesses provided food and money to make the night possible, Klein’s Fish Market, Federico’s, Freedman’s Bakery, Jack’s Tavern, Jake’s Crab Shack, D Jai’s , Bar Anticipation, Connelly Station, Boat House, 507, The Inn at the Shore, New Jersey Natural Gas, and Wilson Walton and Dunkin Donuts all gave from the heart. Several Law firms provided money for the soldiers. The Friendly Son’s of the Shillelagh provided a large contribution, the Bag pipe Band and 7 members who worked on the boat as mates. Thanks to Belmar First Aid who provided members on the boat for any emergency. The Belmar Police provided 5 men who worked as mates and helped plan and run the trip. I would like to thank you for all the individual donations that were made of money food and time. A special Thanks to Captain Quinn from the Ocean Explorer and his staff of professionals for a great night with tons of fish. Please enjoy the photos attached below:
